Our Methodology

Last updated:

1. What We Do

SecurityReview.org is an aggregator. We do not run our own lab tests. Instead, we collect publicly available evaluations—professional reviews, lab‑test data published by third‑party organizations, and verified customer feedback—and distill them into one easy‑to‑read Metascore™. Our goal is simple: cut through review overload so you can make a confident purchase decision in minutes, not hours.

2. Source Selection

Only reputable outlets make the cut. Each prospective source is graded on:

Sources that pass earn a Credibility Score (0–1). Those below 0.60 are excluded.

3. Data Collection & Normalization

We ingest star ratings, numeric scores, and narrative verdicts via public APIs, site‑scraping, and manual entry. To compare apples to apples, every score is first converted to a 0–100 scale. Narrative verdicts are run through a sentiment model to estimate an equivalent numeric value.

The normalized score (Snorm) is then weighted by the source’s Credibility Score (C) and recency decay (R):

Weighted Score = Snorm × C × R

4. The Metascore Formula

The final Metascore is the weighted mean of all qualified scores:

Metascore = Σ(Weighted Score) ÷ Σ(C × R)

Because we don’t insert our own testing, this formula keeps us impartial—every point reflects the broader market consensus, not a single editor’s opinion.

5. Update Cadence

6. Conflicts & Independence

Affiliates may compensate us when you click a link and make a purchase (see our Earnings Disclosure). However, no retailer or manufacturer can pay to boost a score, alter our data set, or request unqualified sources be added.

7. Limitations

A metascore is only as strong as its underlying data. If expert coverage is sparse or user feedback is limited, confidence intervals widen. We display a Reliability Meter next to every score so you know how much weight to assign.

8. Have Questions?

We believe in radical transparency. Send methodology questions via our Contact Form; we respond within five business days.
